Soundgarden Drops New Video for ‘Halfway There’

In the video for “Halfway There,” the third single off their latest album King Animal,  Soundgarden tripped the light fantastic by following the adventures of a lonely pilot hurtling across space.

Directed by the band’s art director Josh Graham,  who also directed the band’s 2012 video for “Been Away Too Long,” the clip employs crazy colors and patterns to make it even more psychedelic.

Watch Soundgarden Play ‘Black Hole Sun’ at the Wiltern

When Soundgarden stopped by the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles earlier this year, they brought out several fresh tracks from their 2013 album King Animal and a slew of hits from their storied career.

For those that weren’t in attendance, Metal Assault was luckily there, and the news outlet has since posted video of the grunge icons performing one of their biggest songs, “Black Hole Sun.”

Premier Guitar Runs Through Kim Thayil’s Rig

Soundgarden Begins Three-Night Stand in L.A.

With their originally-scheduled two-night stand at the Wiltern Theatre selling out quickly, Soundgarden decided to add a third date – tickets for which went just as fast.

And on Friday night, the Seattle icons roared back into Los Angeles with a stellar two-and-a-half hour set that not only highlighted their latest album King Animal, but also touched on many of their groundbreaking smashes from past works. Continue reading

Soundgarden Tabs Dave Grohl to Direct ‘By Crooked Steps’ Video

Currently touring in support of their latest album King Animal, Soundgarden tabbed Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl to direct their video for “By Crooked Steps.”

The clip adds a little levity to the Seattle grunge legends, as the quartet is cast as a biker gang of sorts.  There is also a cameo from electronic music standout Deadmau5.

Soundgarden Rips Classic ‘Rusty Cage’ for Sirius

Back in November, Soundgarden participated in a SiriusXM Town Hall session, where the grunge pioneers performed several songs off their latest album King Animal and took questions from fans.

The event was held in New York at the historic Electric Lady Studios, and Soundgarden even treated those in attendance with a gem from their back catalog in Badmotorfinger‘s “Rusty Cage.”  Continue reading

Soundgarden Rocks New Tunes for Live on Letterman

Coinciding with the release of their first album in 15 years, Soundgarden was recently the featured guest on The Late Show with David Letterman.

On the show, they played the lead single from King Animal, a grunge-tinged track called “Been Away Too Long.”

Afterwards, the Seattle legends played an hour-long set for the audience, lacing the new tunes with several classics from their canon. Continue reading

Soundgarden Release New Single from King Animal

Soundgarden has a new album – King Animal - set to come out Nov. 13, marking the Seattle band’s first new studio album in over 15 years.

But until then, the grunge godfathers are giving fans a taste of what’s coming with the release of the record’s first single, “Been Away Too Long.”

According to frontman Chris Cornell, the track reminds him of Soundgarden’s Down on the Upside (1996) era, but with a “different energy.” Continue reading

Soundgarden Announces New Album Title, Release Date

Earlier this week, Soundgarden announced that their first album since 1996′s Down on the Upside is called King Animal and will be released Nov. 13.

The band reunited in 2010 and recorded a song – “Live to Rise” – for the soundtrack to The Avengers, and have been working on the new material since then.
