Midlake Goes Acoustic for KDHX Session

Midlake’s 2013 album Antiphon was a challenge to make.

The Texas-based low-fi band lost its lead singer in 2012, and they had to ditch two years of work and start over with guitarist Eric Pulido on vocals. What came out of that was a gem of ethereal rockers that can easily lull the listener into a trance.

Late last year, Midlake got the chance to stop by the St. Louis studios of KDHX to play a few of their new tracks.  Watch acoustic performances of “Antiphon” and “It’s Going Down” after the jump and listen to their full set here. Continue reading

Watch Paolo Nutini’s ‘Iron Sky’ at Abbey Road

Paolo NutiniScottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini has kept out of the spotlight for the past few years, but with the new album Caustic Love slated to come out April 14, he is returning to the music industry with a soulful bang.

The song highlights Nutini’s powerful vocals, as well as a snippet from Charlie Chaplin’s noteworthy speech from 1940 film The Great Dictator, in which the comedian states, “Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not cattle. You are men.”

Count Grammy-winning pop songstress Adele as one artist who was impressed.

“F**k!!! This is one of the best things I’ve ever seen in my life hands down,” she tweeted.
